summer reading list.

it has been an incredibly strenuous week. i started exams last week monday, wrote three in-class ones and had two take-home exams. sounds nice right? WRONG (oh so wrong). five english courses meant upwards of 10 essays. in a week. i got to thursday and could do nothing but cry because i was all out of words. after a few socialization breaks i was able to go back friday, pound out two of my final three, then last night i started the third. with this morning's completion of my final THREE essays i can officially say i'm on summer!

unfortunately i wish this was an exciting situation. but i'm not excited anymore. in fact i want to avoid summer. i need to busy my time up as much as possible because i'm so scared that with people busy working, or just generally not being present (a specific situation of this is really why i want to avoid summer), i will end up sitting around doing nothing, being sad. i know work is going to be a joke coz we have too many people at my store that demand 30 hrs which leaves others - like me - with about 12 hrs a week. so i'm hoping that i can do more photography. volunteer outside the church circle. maybe get another job. we'll see what happens.

one thing i do hope to keep busy doing is reading.

even though i am an english major i read pretty much nothing all year - ya, it's bad but i get by - but for the summer i have gathered 16 books of which i hope to read. i don't expect to get through them all but i'm looking forward to reading as many of them as possible. they are all books i have been looking forward to having time to read for a while.

sarah's key by tatiana de rosnay
water for elephants by sara gruen
same different kind of as me by ron hall and denver moore
a complicated kindness by miriam toews
franny and zooey by j.d. salinger
half broke horses by jeannette wells
gargoyle by andrew davidson
lioness arising by lisa bevere
come, thou tortoise by jessica grant
flowers for algernon by daniel keyes
the poisonwood bible by barbara kingsolver
something blue by emily giffin
the da vinci code by dan brown
she's come undone by wally lamb
the gum thief by douglas coupland
the alchemist by paulo coelho
kiss the girl and made her cry by lisa bevere
the girl who kicked the hornet's nest by stieg larsson

so here's to summer, here's to reading. i'm hoping my low expectations are slashed but in the meantime, i'm going to try my best to avoid allowing the summer to be slow and lonely (sounds so emo.. ahah).

have a great day!
